# New Study: Psilocybin for Concussions 🧠

**Synopsis:** In a new study, researchers gave male rats Psilocybin 1 year after they sustained traumatic brain injuries. A single dose improved movement, learning & memory while restoring disrupted serotonin signaling & reducing the number of microglial cells associated with the brain’s response to injury.

**My take:** I love football & the UFC, but it can be hard to watch knowing the damage repeated blows to the head can cause. Right now, there are few meaningful treatment options.

This was a study in rats, so we are nowhere close to calling Psilocybin a treatment for concussions in humans. But in an area where solutions are desperately needed, even an early signal is worth investigating.
