### *Order beneath the trip, another look at MDMA & a microdosing finding worth watching.*

### 1\. Your Brain on Mushrooms Isn’t Just Descending Into Chaos

**Synopsis:** Researchers scanned 62 psychedelic-naive adults before and under psilocybin during rest, meditation, music & a video. Their analysis revealed organized patterns of brain activity tied to each setting—patterns conventional averaging missed. Stronger alignment with context tracked with more profound experiences & greater next-day mindset changes.

**My take:** “Your brain becomes chaotic” has always felt like an incomplete explanation for an experience that can feel extraordinarily coherent. This offers a more interesting picture. It also gives set & setting some biological substance: the playlist, surroundings & what you bring into the experience deserve attention alongside the dose.

### 2\. MDMA’s PTSD Results Are Promising. The Evidence Still Has Baggage.

**Synopsis:** A new review pooled six randomized trials involving 286 participants. MDMA-assisted therapy produced greater short-term reductions in PTSD symptoms than control conditions, with higher response & remission rates. But all six trials were MAPS-sponsored, and the authors rated the overall evidence as low certainty, flagging problems including expectancy, participants recognizing their treatment assignment & study-conduct concerns. They also released an open database that will be updated as research develops.

**My take:** You can believe MDMA has enormous potential & still demand better evidence. Those positions are perfectly compatible. People suffering from PTSD deserve serious research, transparent data & safeguards—not a field so invested in its preferred outcome that scrutiny becomes an act of betrayal. The open database is a welcome move.

### 3\. LSD Microdosing Improved Women’s Attention. Men Didn’t Show the Same Gains.

**Synopsis:** A preliminary reanalysis of a placebo-controlled trial involving 48 healthy adults found that women receiving four 15-microgram LSD doses over two weeks showed faster reactions & fewer lapses on a sustained-attention task. Men showed no comparable improvement. Presented at the ECNP congress, the findings need confirmation in larger studies specifically designed to examine sex differences. They don’t establish a general cognitive boost or an ADHD treatment.

**My take:** The microdosing debate keeps getting flattened into “it works” or “it’s placebo.” Perhaps we should get more specific: works for whom, for what & under which conditions? A person looking for better focus & someone looking for a more interesting afternoon aren’t asking the same question. Research should be precise enough to recognize that.
