1\. **Psilocybin & LSD Advance Toward FDA Approval**

**Synopsis**: New Psychology Today overview examines the progress of Psilocybin & LSD through late-stage trials. It highlights reported positive Phase 3 results for treatment-resistant depression & generalized anxiety disorder, while emphasizing that company announcements aren’t FDA approval.

**My take:** There’s real progress here, & demanding good evidence doesn’t make someone anti-Psychedelic. However, I am becoming increasingly convinced Psychedelic culture will remain underground.

2\. **DEA Revives Proposal to Ban 5 Psychedelic Compounds**

**Synopsis**: The DEA has renewed its proposal to place 5 Psychedelic tryptamines into Schedule I, after withdrawing an earlier attempt in 2022\. In a 9/30 statement, Students for Sensible Drug Policy warned that the restrictions could impede research, highlighting that one targeted compound, 4-OH-DiPT, is the substance released by an investigational drug being developed for postpartum depression. The proposal hasn’t been finalized.

**My take:** This is some bullshit. We’re celebrating the medical potential of Psychedelics while still reaching for prohibition on compounds we’re trying to understand. A drug doesn’t need to become an FDA-approved medicine to justify its existence. If the government wants to criminalize it, the burden should be demonstrating why that intervention is necessary.

3\. **Who Gets to Provide Psychedelic Therapy?**

**Synopsis**: An October 1 report from the Congressional Psychedelics Advancing Therapies Caucus recommends multiple pathways for qualifying therapy providers, national consent & screening standards, & a system to monitor adverse events.

**My take:** Who gets to provide these treatments will shape who can afford them. Requirements should establish actual competence: screening, consent, boundaries & knowing what to do when something goes wrong. I want meaningful standards, & I want every expensive credential justified by what it does for the person receiving care.
